Cuando Garrett Thornburg fundó Thornburg Investment Management en 1982, Santa Fe estaba muy alejada de los centros financieros tradicionales. El S&P 500 registró en el segundo trimestre de 2026 su cuarta mayor subida trimestral desde el año 2000, a pesar de haber comenzado el periodo en niveles elevados. Sin embargo, solo alrededor de un tercio de sus componentes superó al índice durante el primer semestre, la proporción más baja en más de 35 años. Los inversionistas han sido recompensados por mantener posiciones en un grupo relativamente reducido de empresas ganadoras vinculadas a la inteligencia artificial.
Los fundamentos que respaldan ese liderazgo no deben descartarse. Los resultados recientes de los grandes proveedores de servicios en la nube muestran una aceleración de los ingresos por servicios cloud, mayores márgenes y las primeras evidencias de que las elevadas inversiones en inteligencia artificial están generando rendimientos atractivos. Pero unos fundamentos más sólidos no eliminan la necesidad de disciplina en las valoraciones. Las expectativas, la intensidad de capital y el precio pagado siguen determinando la asimetría entre el potencial alcista y el riesgo de caída.
Tampoco las oportunidades se limitan a los líderes del mercado. Empresas sólidas de los mercados globales pueden ofrecer perspectivas de crecimiento comparables a valoraciones más bajas y, con frecuencia, con mayores rendimientos por dividendos. Para los inversionistas profesionales cuyas asignaciones globales a renta variable se han vuelto cada vez más dependientes de las grandes empresas tecnológicas estadounidenses, ampliar la búsqueda puede diversificar tanto las fuentes de rendimiento como las fuentes de riesgo.
Equity Income Builder: la valoración antes que el rendimiento
