The latest U.S. CPI data has not been strong enough to justify another rate hike in October. Beyond the impact of rising energy costs and the effect of AI investments on the price of PCs, software, or mobile phones, the only aspect to watch is the uptick in Owners' Equivalent Rent (OER), which has risen compared to the previous month.

CoreWeave's warning would be an isolated case, affecting the subsegment of tech companies with higher financial leverage that are more sensitive to rate hikes, and does not constitute a red flag for AI-linked companies as a whole.

It is nevertheless a curious coincidence that Kevin Warsh's abandonment of forward guidance—which has likely affected the yield curve structure—coincided with the Nobel Prize in Economics awarded to Michael Woodford, who has probably been the academic who has put the most effort into providing a theoretical foundation for that idea.
